Antigonish, N.S. – As a leader in business and community development, the Antigonish Regional Development Authority (ARDA) is deeply rooted in the Antigonish community. The new website and brand represents ARDA’s deep commitment to cultivate success and sustainability for a strong Antigonish and the photo contest will expand ARDA’s photo collection to showcase the quality of life in Antigonish.

“We’re very excited to have our new website up and running,” says Gerry Grant, executive director at ARDA. “The website and our new brand is a current representation of who we are and what we do. The tagline, “Where ideas take root” fits us perfectly.”

As one of 13 regional development authorities across the province, ARDA helps build a strong and healthy community. With access to the three levels of government, expertise in building community capacity and business support, ARDA is often the go to shop for businesses and community groups looking for guidance and/or support.

ARDA’s new website has two important purposes. It represents ARDA and has current information regarding projects and initiatives. It also showcases life in Antigonish. ARDA is looking for photos that reflect life in Antigonish and how great it is to visit, stay, work, and play here. To celebrate the launch of the new website, ARDA is hosting a photo contest with the theme “Showing Our Roots. Life in Antigonish”. Submitted photos should focus on life in Antigonish and entries may be used on the new ARDA website. Photos can be submitted via email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and the contest closes Friday, October 9, 2009.

“Hosting a photo contest allows us to build a photo library to showcase our community and it gets the community involved in promoting our area to the world,” says Grant. “At the same time, we also support the local business community.” The three winners will receive a gift certificate from an Antigonish business of their choice. The first place prize is worth $300, the second place prize is $200, and the third place prize is worth $100.

Besides launching a new website, unveiling a new brand, and initiating a photo contest, ARDA is geared up for a busy fall and winter. ARDA is currently involved in the planning of the new highway, conducting economic impact studies on significant events in the area like the Antigonish Highland Games, assisting with the coordinating of the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations, the business retention and expansion program, assisting groups with strategic planning, and community development. “We’ve had a great year and we’re working with so many groups, organizations, and businesses making some positive changes and enhancements for the betterment of the community,” says Grant.
