High-Speed Internet in Antigonish
In 2007, the province of Nova Scotia decided to cover all areas of Nova Scotia with high-speed internet access. ARDA assisted the province by identifying the areas in Antigonish County without high-speed access and assisted in selecting a successful candidate to do the job.
Seaside Communications was selected as one of three partners in a new wireless high-speed initiative. It is our hope, that with new towers, more areas and rural communities will have high-speed internet available to them. Many of the wireless towers throughout the county have been commissioned and are providing high-speed internet now. Those who still remain in areas without service should have access by the end of this year.
Back in 2003 through to 2006, ARDA was instrumental as the community champion during the Broadband for Rural and Northern Development Pilot Program. This project was responsible for bringing high-speed internet to seven communities that had no previous access to anything but dial-up.
